I quit my full-time job as a BBC Scotland presenter of news and sport to set up my own company, The Broadcasting Business.
We would run media training courses, presentation skills courses and make corporate and sporting videos.
With three children under six, it simply had to work. And it did.
We’ve now visited 23 countries running over 3000 courses with more than 300 clients.
The highlight was helping Glasgow win the 2014 Commonwealth Games through 25 presentation skills courses.
Preparing Cunard for the launch of the QM2 with media training at the French shipyard where she was being built.
Running emergency exercises with BP in Azerbaijan, Dubai and Georgia.
And simply building the confidence of thousands who’ve visited our Glasgow studios – to help them interview better on TV or command an audience from the stage.
Last year my son Andrew McFarlan – who was two when I set up the company – became my business partner as we relaunched as Pink Elephant Communications…capitalising on the Pink Elephant brand we’d built for a quarter of a century.
We’ve also launched new courses to build on the success of the last 26 years.
Bill McFarlan is managing director of media training and presentation skills training firm Pink Elephant Communications in Glasgow.

Some media trainers knock you down…and leave you down. Our media coaches show you how to deal with each knock…and still win through. So you have the presentation skills to perform – with confidence.
